The PE programme at Conway Primary School promotes positive attitudes towards an active, healthy lifestyle. Pupils learn to manage success and failure in co-operative and competitive situations and develop their skills in teamwork, communication and collaboration.
Our PE programme of study, delivered by specialist sports coaches, provides a wide range of activities for pupils in all year groups including athletics, dance and gymnastics and team games. Pupils in EYFS and KS1 will work on fundamental movement skills, balance, agility and co-ordination. In KS2 children are introduced to simplified versions of team games such as football, tag-rugby, netball, cricket, rounders and athletics. KS2 children will also have the chance to participate in weekly swimming lessons.
Our PE offer at Conway Primary School provides opportunities for inter and intra school competitions, sports days and extracurricular sports clubs. As a 'healthy school' we link our work in PE to PSHE and our food and nutrition lessons, so children begin to cultivate an active, healthy lifestyle.
PE Vision Statement
At Conway Primary School we are passionate about raising sporting achievement and improving the health and well-being of our all our pupils. Our aim is to deliver a high-quality PE curriculum, as well as offer a wide range of extracurricular activities.
We believe that a rich and varied PE curriculum can improve attainment, attendance and behavior. In addition, we want to inspire a love of sport in order to raise the level of physical activity of our pupils outside of school. Through our PE provision we aim to develop the skills and attitudes needed for every child to have a lifelong participation in physical activity and healthy living.
Sports Ambassadors
Conway Primary School’s Sports Ambassadors are a group of 24 children across KS2 who play a very important role in PE at the school. Appointed in September for the whole academic year, Sports Ambassadors are responsible for:
- Promoting sporting events at Conway;
- Encouraging other children to take part in physical activity;
- Helping staff with School Games events (for example, setting up equipment, score-keeping and officiating);
- Contributing ideas for whole-school sport events;
- Helping staff to create and update the PE noticeboard and displays.
Sports Ambassadors have to apply for their positions and must be able to demonstrate a commitment to PE and sport, as well as the School Games values of honesty, teamwork, self-belief, respect, passion and determination.
