At Conway Primary School, we are committed to developing confident, capable, and enthusiastic mathematicians. From the earliest stages of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage through to the end of Key Stage 2, children are encouraged and supported to develop a positive attitude towards mathematics and an appreciation of its importance in everyday life.

Through a carefully structured curriculum, daily mathematics lessons, and dedicated Robust Maths sessions, we aim to develop children's mathematical fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Our teaching promotes deep understanding, ensuring that pupils can apply their knowledge confidently and independently across a range of contexts.

We encourage children to recognise the connections between mathematics and other areas of learning. Mathematical concepts are embedded throughout the curriculum, whether applying knowledge of shape and space in Art and Design Technology, measuring and weighing in cookery activities, or collecting, analysing, and presenting data in Science. By making these links explicit, children develop a richer understanding of how mathematics shapes the world around them.

To further engage and inspire our pupils, we provide meaningful real-world contexts for mathematical learning. Children explore large numbers through examples such as transfer fees in professional sport, investigate time and speed through Olympic events, and apply their understanding of mathematics to authentic scenarios that demonstrate its relevance beyond the classroom.

Our aim is for every child to leave Conway Primary School with a secure understanding of mathematics, the confidence to tackle challenges, and the skills needed to succeed in their future education and everyday life.
